Hi everyone! I’m Maya—a multifaceted performing artist with a fondness of dance and choreography. My journey in the arts kicked off at the age of 5, engaging in my primary school’s dance club where I was granted the opportunity to perform at age 6 for the first time in a showcase held at the Lord Kitchener’s Auditorium (NAPA) in 2010. Alongside dance, I delved into music theory and learned to play the tenor pan. As I grew older, my love for singing blossomed, leading me to join the school’s choir and parang group, and I started taking weekly vocal lessons. Since the age of 11, I’ve been training in various dance styles including ballet, hip hop, contemporary, jazz, kathak, and folk, creating a diverse and vibrant artistic skill set. Joining the APA at 16 opened up new avenues, expanding my repertoire to include acting, singing, and delving into the intricacies of stagecraft and theater technology. Beyond the stage, I also enjoy visual arts, modeling, music production, film, and cinematography. I aspire to be a global creative entrepreneur, aiming to not only inspire Trinidad and Tobago’s upcoming creatives but also transcend global boundaries to reshape the entertainment and performing arts industries.
